Overview
Irish eyes are smiling at the thought
of the fun they will have at the St. Patrick's Day Festival in the 7th largest
Irish City in North America - Atlanta! Taking place over three days at
Underground Atlanta, the 2005 St. Patrick's Day Family Festival will feature
live traditional Irish music and performances by Celtic Irish Rock bands, as
well as Irish dance contests, children's activities, Irish food and beverages
and unique Irish vendors. Adding to the extravaganza, patrons will also want to
catch the city's 124th Atlanta St. Patrick's Parade, which will culminate
Saturday afternoon at Underground Atlanta!
Celebrating the 40% of Georgians and nearly one quarter of Atlantans who
currently claim Irish decent, Underground Atlanta invites you and your family to
experience the rich Irish culture beginning Thursday, March 17th through
Saturday, March 19th. Here are some ways to embrace your heritage and revel in
true Irish spirit this St. Patrick's Day weekend:
DANCE: Witness spirited Irish dances by four of Atlanta's own Irish dance
schools including: the Cregan O'Brien School of Irish Dance, Mulligan School of
Irish Dance, Drake School of Irish Dance and the King O'Sullivan School of Irish
Dance.
LIVE MUSIC: Enjoy the playful, lively music of Irish bands such as: The Long
Drop, Mickle-A-Do, Siansa, Emerald Rose, the Buddy O'Reilly Band and Keltic
Kudzu. Performances will take place on three stages located on Upper Alabama
Street, Lower Alabama Street and in Kenny's Alley.
CONTESTS & FUNDRAISERS: Test your Irish dancing skills in a Treble Reel dance
contest to win free airline tickets from AirTran Airways. Or, raise funds for
cancer research as you take pledges from friends and family to shave your head
for St. Baldricks.
FOOD: Experience authentic Irish food and beverages at Underground's own Irish
Bred Pub & Grill or grab a Shamrock Shake at Johnny Rockets. Irish food vendors
will also offer unique snacks.
VENDORS: Discover Irish souvenirs ranging from T-Shirts and snacks to
shamrock-hats and headbands at our vendor booths! Irish society members will
also have booths set up. Come meet them in person following Saturday's parade.
CHILDREN'S FUN & GAMES: Meet Chuckles the Clown or ride on our carnival swing
ride! Children will also enjoy face painting, balloons, giant inflatable fun
houses and sports throw games. Kids will also delight in seeing our historic
fountains turned green!
Use Atlanta kids and make Atlanta fun for the kids...and you!
