Atlanta Night Journeys Article Date: 2006
Location: Imagine It! Children’s Museum
Atlanta’s Night Journeys exhibit demystifies the mystery of sleep. It allows kids to explore the culture and the science of sleep, including their own sleepytime rituals, fears and curiosities. Bedroomland allows kids to focus on the tangible aspects of sleep by seeing the preparation for sleep, putting off bedtime, and nighttime fears.
Sleepland takes kids into the imaginary world of dreams and nighttime fantasy. They can explore the active state of sleep, experience dreamlike sensations, and allay some of their common fears. If you have a child who puts off bedtime or has bad dreams, this exhibit may be just the ticket to calm their fears and turn bedtime into a happy time.
Kids like to have things explained to them in a way that makes sense—in other words, in a way that relates to their real world. This exhibit does just that, and lets kids see what’s behind the act of sleeping. Parents will appreciate any help they can get, since they’re usually grateful for every moment of sleep they can get!
