The National Black Arts Festival returns to Atlanta to celebrate the African-American creative legacy in the world of the arts. Themed “Generation to Generation: Master—Mentor—Muse,” this year’s National Black Arts Festival will energize audiences of all ages through dance, music, film, theatre, literature and the visual arts.
Winning world acclaim for its focus on the African-American experience, this year’s NBAF offers a variety of family activities, slated July 22-23 at the Woodruff Arts Center, including lessons from every generation shared at the Children’s Education Village, and featuring activities to teach the African-American heritage through hands-on learning.
Hear storytellers and performing artists from many cultures, including the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta and artists from the Atlanta Symphony and enjoy a production of “Anansi the Spider” for young and old, alike.
The Pan African Film Festival will present an inspiring line-up of African films and the Pinkney’s, a nationally-recognized family of African American authors and illustrators of children’s books, will take center stage during the multicultural book fair.
Families are also invited to attend readings and conversations with poet Nikki Giovanni, performances by the Neville Brothers, Odetta, and “Freedom Song,” a dance choreographed by the NBAF by Ronald K. Brown.
