The Fantastiks Article Date: 5/10/06
Location: New American Shakespeare Tavern
The Fantastiks, the longest-running musical in history, tells a tale of two neighbors, both fathers, who use reverse psychology to get their kids to fall in love with each other. Anyone who has ever heard “Try to Remember” can immediately relate to young love, family interference, and innocence. And the kids who attend will be immediately caught up in the tale itself, one that captures hearts and imaginations most effortlessly. A story of wisdom acquired through painful events, the Fantastiks offers parents the opportunity to show kids that while life holds unexpected events, it also holds promise. And again, the song is the thing. “Deep in December, it’s nice to remember: Without a hurt, the heart is hollow.”
With a little help from you, even younger kids can get this message and use it as they move forward into life’s complications. In the meantime, the show is fun, touching, and filled with music that will last a lifetime.
