America‘s 10K Family Race. On your mark...get set...go! The US 10K Classic is billed as America‘s Greatest 10K and it‘s easy to see why when you hear all the activities centered around race weekend. With activities for all ages, this is sure to be a family favorite once you‘ve tried it. The road race brings runners, walkers, skaters, cyclers and wheelchair athletes together to raise awareness and funds for children‘s charities in Georgia.
And they all have a good time doing it. Start the weekend off with the Pre-Race Carb dinner the night before, where you can feast on pasta, salads and burritos as well as other delicious temptations and desserts. Another highlight is the Family Festival, a two-day funfest prior to the race, September 3-4. Held at Galleria
Gardens, the children‘s activity area features face painters, clowns, jugglers and pony rides, not to mention the always-popular space walk and a huge playground. Everyone in the group will enjoy the musical entertainment and the opportunity to collect some race souvenirs and elite athlete and celebrity autograph signings throughout the weekend.
Of course, the highlight of this classic event is the race itself. Kids can participate in the .5K if they‘re under 6 or the 1K for ages 7-11 on Saturday, race day.
Parents can walk with their kids, and the youngsters get a race t-shirt. Top finishers in each race receive a medal as well. You and your kids will have a ball, and help other kids at the same time--now that‘s a great event.
