The mountain
itself is the world's largest mass of exposed granite. The centerpiece of the
Park -- and one of the true marvels of western engineering -- is found on the
mountain's North side, where you'll see the world's largest high relief carving,
depicting three heroes of the American Confederacy.
Every year, over 4
million visitors enjoy this "eighth Wonder of the World," as well as the Park's
breathtaking scenery, pristine lakes, forestland, beautiful gardens and miles of
nature trails.
The park also
features an enormous variety of recreational and entertainment facilities,
including family-oriented attractions, tennis, golf, fishing, hiking and
camping. |
Crossroads
Stone Mountain Park's Crossroads sends you back in time to an 1870s Southern
town. You'll meet fascinating characters and colorful crafters who will show
you what life was really like 130 years ago. In Crossroads, the townspeople
still work the old trades, dress in the fabrics and styles of the time, and
invite you to join them in this celebration of the past.
The town itself includes a grist mill & bakery, a blown glass shop, a candle
shop, a blacksmith, a large general store, candy and ice cream production
facilities, and a boarding house restaurant featuring the best of Southern
cuisine. Irresistible street entertainers such as the Rain Wizard and singing
sheriff bring the past to life in a way that consumes your senses. In this
town, Southern charm is around every turn.
The centerpiece of Crossroads is the magnificent Tall Tales of the South 4D
Theater. In this amazing multi-sensory adventure, you'll not only experience
the magic of 3D film, but the rest of your senses will be engaged by
spectacular 4D special effects!
The Great Barn
The Great Barn is Atlanta's newest and most exciting children's attraction.
You'll discover this 1870s Barn is filled with four floors of fantastic 21st
century fun! There are rope nets to climb, mazes to explore, and super slides
that whisk you from ceiling to floor. You can even become a character in the
world's coolest computer game, Harvest Quest. Earn enough points to see your
name in lights on the huge scoreboard in the center of the Barn. You can play
alone or play as a family. Either way, you're sure to create memories worth
repeating!
Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad
All aboard! Take the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad on a beautiful, five mile
journey around the base of the world's largest mass of exposed granite in
open-air train cars. It's the perfect way to get a real perspective on this
truly majestic natural wonder.
The train departs from a scale replica of the Main Train Depot from late 19th
century downtown Atlanta. It also makes a stop at the Confederate Hall/Walk-up
Trail.
Mountaintop Skylift
The Mountaintop Skylift has been our most popular attraction for over 30
years. Giving passengers a breathtaking view of the Confederate Memorial
carving, the Skylift's Swiss cable cars climb 825 ft. above the surrounding
area to the top of the mountain. From there, visitors enjoy an incredible view
of Atlanta, the Appalachian Mountains and surrounding countryside.
Guided tours are available at the top each day during the summer from 10 AM-6
PM (subject to weather and availability).
Antebellum Plantation and Farmyard
Our Antebellum Plantation and Farmyard is comprised of original buildings,
built between 1790 and 1845, which represent an authentic, pre-Civil War
Georgia plantation. After years of research and planning, buildings from
around Georgia were chosen because of their authenticity and historical value,
moved to Stone Mountain Park and then carefully restored to their original
condition.
A strolling tour through the scenic complex provides a realistic view of the
lifestyle of antebellum Georgians. In the Plantation's Farmyard, kids can pet
animals as they roam around the shaded yard while our trained staff teach them
about animal behavior and the roles the animals played on the farm.
Riverboat
Have you ever imagined what it must have been like in the days of the mighty
riverboats? With Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer swimming on the banks while the
elite sipped root beer on the sun deck?
Now you can revisit the glory days of the mighty Mississippi on Stone Mountain
Park's Riverboat. The "Scarlett O'Hara," an authentic, 150 passenger side
wheeler, will take you on a scenic cruise of 363-acre Stone Mountain Lake.
Take in the park's many sights from a unique perspective, as you catch a cool
breeze off the water.
Treehouse Challenge
Stone Mountain Park's all-new Treehouse Challenge, located in Crossroads, is
Atlanta's Ultimate Kids' Adventure. This one-of-a-kind outdoor attraction has
two dueling tree houses, where groups of boys and groups of girls join forces
to compete against the opposite gender for bragging rights.
Stone Mountain Museum
In Stone Mountain Park's Memorial Hall, you'll find the Discovering Stone
Mountain Museum, where visitors can enjoy a great view of the carving and an
intriguing chronological journey from Stone Mountain's past to its present.
Exhibits highlight the people, stories and activities that make up the Stone
Mountain legend. You'll also find true to scale elements from the world's
largest relief carving.
Antique Car and Treasure Museum
The Antique Car and Treasure Museum houses wonderful memorabilia from
America's rich and storied past. Not only was the museum ranked as one of the
"Top 10 Small Car Museums" in the United States by Car Collector magazine, but
the curator has spent 49 years collecting all sorts of Americana - like
jukeboxes, player pianos, band organs, dolls, toys, trains, Coca-Cola
memorabilia, carousel animals, bicycles, motorcycles, and hundreds of other
fascinating items.
Among the automobiles in the museum is the famous 1948 Tucker, which was
featured in the Hollywood movie, Tucker: The Man and his Dream. Only 51 of
these precedent-setting cars were ever built and its current value has been
estimated as high as one half-million dollars. Eight of the museum's vehicles
are either one-of-a-kind or the only ones known to exist in the world,
including a 1928 Martin, 1904 Oldsmobile Pie Wagon, 1933 Ford Rumble Seat
Roadster, 1946 Hewson Rocket car and a 1913 three-seat Harley Davidson
motorcycle.
Laser Show Spectacular
Spring, Summer and Fall are the seasons to visit the Park at night as we turn
the north side of Stone Mountain into a one million square-foot natural screen
for our popular Lasershow Spectacular.
As the stars come out, a modern laser animation projection system transforms
brilliant, colorful lights into dramatic stories, historic tales and all sorts
of comical characters. With a state-of-the-art surround sound system, dazzling
fireworks and a flame cannon shooting fireballs hundreds of feet into the air,
the magnificent show has become one of the most popular attractions in all of
Georgia. Be sure to come early and picnic on the lawn in front of the
reflecting pond before the show. It's the perfect evening for the whole
family!
Water Slide Complex
It's been known to get a bit warm in Georgia from time to time. And when those
times hit, there's no better way to cool off than to splash down one of our
four waterslides including the Mountain Screamer and Southern Pipeline. They
make for cool Summer Fun for the whole family! In addition, the white sand
beach is available for sunbathing. Please note, however, that the lake is
closed to swimming.
Stone Mountain Golf Course
Stone Mountain Park features two championship golf courses, one of which has
been consistently rated by Golf Digest as one of the top 75 public courses in
the United States. Each nine brings new challenges, from the tight, waterside
links of Lakemont to the rugged elevated tees and greens of Stonemont. The
facility also features a driving range, putting green, and The Commons
Restaurant.
Stone Mountain Tennis Center
The Stone Mountain Tennis Center was built for the 1996 Olympics and has
multiple lighted courts, plus an 8,000 seat stadium. With significant recent
improvements, the Stone Mountain Tennis Center is quickly becoming the premier
tennis tournament venue in the Southeastern United States. It is also open to
the general public for recreational play.
Carillon Bells
The daily concert (in season) from our 732-bell Carillon is one of the true
joys of Stone Mountain Park. The Carillon was donated to the Park by our
friends at Coca-Cola after being exhibited in the 1964 World's Fair in New
York City.
