 Piedmont Park

In the heart of Midtown, Atlanta’s most loved park, Piedmont Park has a surprising history unknown to most who enjoy it. It has served as a farm, a World War I encampment, a driving club (and we don’t mean golf...), and as the grounds for the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition - all before becoming a public park! Over the years, this historic site has hosted many of the events that have helped shape Atlanta. Nearly 3,000,000 people a year visit Piedmont Park, making it one of the most heavily used parks in the southeastern United States.

Interactive walking tours of historic Piedmont Park, sponsored by the Piedmont Park Conservancy, are available every Saturday at 11am from April through October. The tours are approximately one hour in length. Understand the many influences which shaped the landscape such as the Piedmont Industrial Exposition of 1887, the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895 and the design produced by the nation’s premier landscape architectural firm, the Olmsted Brothers, in 1912. The tours gather at The Visitors’ Center.

The Visitors’ Center is located inside the 12th Street entrance to Piedmont Park, at the intersection of 12th Street and Piedmont Avenue. Participants walk for approximately one mile, mostly on paved surfaces and paths.
