Located on the second floor of the Kennesaw House, the Marietta Museum of History is one of Marietta's hidden treasures.
The three galleries in the museum are overflowing with a wide variety of artifacts that will offer something of interest for every visitor.
The Homelife Gallery houses the museum's collection of 19th and 20th Century clothing and accessories, as well as a variety of inventions that were used for entertainment at the turn of the 20th Century.
The Civil War Gallery features replica Civil War uniforms, as well as authentic weapons and ammunition, and displays telling the story of Andrews' Raiders, a group of Yankee spies who spent the night in the Kennesaw House before stealing the steam engine called "The General." The General History Gallery tells the story of the development of Cobb County and Marietta with displays on Native Americans, the Gold Rush, early inventions, influential Mariettans, and the growth of the Bell Bomber Plant, now Lockheed/Martin. In addition, the general History gallery contains military displays for the Revolutionary War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The museum also maintains comprehensive collections of historical photographs, artifacts and documentary information on Marietta in particular and North Georgia in general. The museum has been accumulating this information on people and places since the early 1990's, and is dedicated to preserving and presenting the items it collects.
