 Atlanta Center for Puppetry Arts
The Center for Puppetry Arts is a must-see stop while you’re in Atlanta, whatever your reason for visiting. The largest organization of its type in the U.S., the Center is dedicated to the art form of puppetry and focuses on performance, education and the museum. Home to three theaters, you can see performances year-round, suited for children’s audiences, adult audiences and a mix of both.

The shows are a combination of classic tales and experimental new works. Okay, now that you know the details, here’s the most important thing—it’s FUN! The museum has a permanent collection of more than 1,000 puppets—and many of them are on display at any given time. These beings are works of art that come to life through the talent of the puppeteers, all for the sake of great entertainment and a story worth watching.

This is a hands-on kind of place. You’ll have an educational good time with the likes of Link Hogthrob and Dr. Strangepork of Muppets fame as well as Wayland Flower’s Madame and a Skekasis from The Dark Crystal. Workshops abound in this magical place, while shows are part of three different series—Family, Summerfest and New Direction, all with a different focus. Best of all, you can buy your very own puppet at the museum store!

You just can’t miss out on this good time—your kids will thanks you for a day of wonder.
